TOMATO GOLDEN SUNRISE

Pack size: 20 Seeds

Sow: January to April

Harvest: July to October

BEAUTIFUL GOLDEN YELLOW TOMATO: A tomato the colour of sunshine that will make you smile every time you see it. The medium-sized fruits are generously produced on long trusses and have a rich, sweet and juicy flavour – said to be one of the best around. They ripen to a brilliant deep yellow, making a fabulous splash of colour sliced into salads.

RHS AWARD GARDEN OF MERIT: Tomato Golden Sunrise is a cordon tomato best grown as an annual, suitable for growing in an unheated greenhouse or outdoors. This cultivar is later maturing, producing trusses of sweet, medium sized golden yellow tomatoes from late summer to early autumn

HOW TO PLANT: Sow seeds underglass 0.5cm deep in pots or trays of good seed sowing compost and lightly cover with a sprinkling of vermiculite or compost. Place containers in a propagator at a temperature of 18–21°C. Prick out seedlings, once large enough to handle, into 9cm pots. Transplant to the greenhouse border soil, or individual large pots, or 3 plants per growbag when 20cm (8in) high. Can also be planted outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

TOP GROWING TIPS: Plants require side shooting and support for the best yields. Water and feed plants once the first truss has set. An indeterminate grow as single stem and remove side shoots. Sow basil among your tomatoes as a companion plant: the scent deters whitefly and it's handy for harvesting to complement your tomatoes perfectly in Mediterranean cooking.

GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS: Tomato Golden Sunrise is a great starter vegetable to grow. Planting veg, herbs and flowers is a wonderful way to spend time in your garden, cultivate mindfulness and appreciate the little things just like in years gone by. Working with the earth and growing things is immensely satisfying – teach your children or grandchildren this priceless skill of harvesting food in their own gardens, allotments, greenhouses, inside the home in pots or even in community gardens!
