BEAUTIFUL REDDISH BROWN LETTUCE WITH GREEN CENTRE: Add some crunchy colour to your summer salads with Lollo Rossa lettuce. It is a loose leaf strain with deep reddish brown coloured leaves. Whether you're using it as a base for your salad or adding it to your sandwich, wrap, or burger, our Lollo Rosso Lettuce offers versatility and a wealth of culinary possibilities.

CLASSIC ITALIAN CUT AND COME AGAIN LETTUCE: Lollo Rossa is a deliciously strong productive variety and is suitable for cropping throughout the year. The crisp curly leaves form a loose shaped heart. It's a cut and come again variety so you can harvest the outer leaves as needed and the heart will keep producing more to allow a continual harvest over several weeks.

HOW TO PLANT: Plant seeds 1.5cm deep in well-drained soil in a sunny spot. If sowing early, either grow seedlings in a greenhouse or indoors to avoid frost damage. If planting into the ground, set a 25cm distance between seeds to give space for the lettuce to fully grow. Lettuce needs plenty of sunshine and soil which retains some moisture; provided there is fair seasonal weather these lettuces will flourish wherever you sow them in raised planting beds, pots, baskets or windowsill containers!    TOP

GROWING TIPS: lollo Rossa lettuce has good heat, stress and bolt-resistance, so it grows well throughout summer if planted in shade in reach of sunshine. Once planted, check the top inch of soil twice a week for dryness. Water the soil only if dry in the morning to set the plant up for a day of growing. Water only in the morning as too much moisture in the evening can encourage slugs and make sure to cover leafy plants like lettuce with cloches before any frosty weather.

GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS: Lollo Rossa lettuce is a great starter vegetable to grow. Planting veg, herbs and flowers is a wonderful way to spend time in your garden, cultivate mindfulness and appreciate the little things just like in years gone by. Working with the earth and growing things is immensely satisfying – teach your children or grandchildren this priceless skill of harvesting food in their own gardens, allotments, greenhouses, inside the home in pots or even in community gardens!
