Pack size: 200 seeds

Harvest: June to August
RELIABLE ESTABLISHED VARIETY: Senshyu Yellow is an ever popular over-wintering Japanese onion, which is a heavy yielding variety for Autumn planting and harvesting from June onwards. One of the most popular crops for the gardener, onions are a huge must for any allotment holder or for the gardener.
WINTER HARDY MAINCROP ONION: Produces excellent quality semi-globe shaped bulbs with golden skin and white flesh. An overwintering main crop onion. This variety is particularly well suited for long term storage after being harvested.
HOW TO GROW: Sow outdoors during August into finely prepared soil. Lightly cover the seeds with soil and firm down. Keep well watered in dry spells. Germination can take 18-24 days. Alternatively sow indoors and transplant outside once established. They are ready to harvest when the tops turn yellow and die back which would normally be around June or July the following year.
TOP GROWING TIPS: Onions are very easy to grow and require minimal looking after. Birds can often peck newly planted seeds out of the ground, so it can help to cover them with fleece or nets until they've rooted in. Water every couple of weeks, especially through dry spells to avoid bolting and keep the surrounding area weed free to avoid competition. Stop watering stop watering once the bulbs have swollen in mid-summer.
GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS: Onion sets are a great starter vegetable to grow. Planting veg, herbs and flowers is a wonderful way to spend time in your garden, cultivate mindfulness and appreciate the little things just like in years gone by. Working with the earth and growing things is immensely satisfying – teach your children or grandchildren this priceless skill of harvesting food in their own gardens, allotments, greenhouses, inside the home in pots or even in community gardens.
