Onion Red Brunswick

Pack size: 200 seeds

Sow: March to May

Harvest: July to September

PRODUCTIVE LATE MATURING VARIETY: A medium to large German variety of dark red onion with blood-red skin and white, spicy flesh with a flattened top that stores very well. It is best planted in spring, harvested in autumn and doesn't mind being planted closely together.

GROWING ONION FROM SEED: There are several different types of onion that can be grown successfully from seed. Growing onions from seed rather than sets requires a longer growing season, but the crops are less prone to bolting and the range of varieties available is more extensive.

HOW TO GROW: Early sowing can be made underglass in pots or seed trays, sow seed on the surface of seed sowing compost and lightly cover with a sprinkling or vermiculite or compost and place at a temperature of 14C. Outdoor sowings can be made in April, sow seed thinly in shallow drills 1.5cm deep, with rows spaced 30cm apart. Greenhouse sown seedlings can be pricked out into individual pots or modular trays.

TOP GROWING TIPS: When harvesting onions for storage, don't bend the ageing tops over! Allow the bulbs to mature naturally and lift when the foliage is almost dry. Store bulbs in a well ventilated area, with temperatures between 1-8 Deg C, do not allow them to freeze.

GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS: Onion Red Brunswick is a great vegetable to grow. Planting veg, herbs and flowers is a wonderful way to spend time in your garden, cultivate mindfulness and appreciate the little things just like in years gone by. Working with the earth and growing things is immensely satisfying – teach your children or grandchildren this priceless skill of harvesting food in their own gardens, allotments, greenhouses, inside the home in pots or even in community gardens

All of our seeds are fresh, packaged in the UK and are supplied in sealed packets with growing instructions.
